Meet the team: Sam Herring

Sam Herring’s appetite for disruption has seen him pack a lot into the last 12 years, from a relative newcomer to the telecom industry to being listed in the top half of the 2024 ROCCO 100 list of the most influential people in the industry.

He’s also one of the most travelled people at eSIM Go, building carrier relationships all over the world, accumulating significant knowledge of the global telecoms market, and furthering his proficiency in no fewer than 6 languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Arabic – as well as English).

Path to telco success

After starting out in mobile VAS working with MNOs in sub-Saharan Africa, Sam joined Nexmo at an early stage to drive carrier relations and then enterprise sales across Africa and the Middle East (MEA). There he got a front-row view of its 3 solid years of hyper growth, right from seed stage through to exit with its takeover by Vonage (thereafter acquired by Ericsson).

Around this time, Sam also set up Mango Communications, a side venture in the A2P messaging/SMS space.

With the Nexmo journey over by early 2016, Sam moved into the CPaaS space with Callr in 2016, expanding his MEA focus to a more global remit, negotiating complex inter-networking agreements with MNOs to increase capacity in line with business scale and the need for worldwide coverage.

Applying telco expertise to fintech opportunities

A year later Sam co-founded a fintech in the payments and remittances industry, Reloadly, to build payment APIs for developers and their brands – once again demonstrating his penchant for opening up new markets and disrupting the status quo. He joined eSIM Go in March 2024 as Head of Strategic Carrier Relations.

“Working with a lot of hypergrowth businesses in the past, you realise how energy and team spirit among the company just means everything. eSIM Go certainly has that, and is also much further ahead in its development than many businesses I’ve worked at.”

Sam is a proven builder, creator and disruptor in the telecoms space, and we’re delighted to have him on our team!
